About
the Artist

I've been creating art since a young age and
received training in high school and college, but until recently, this has been
primarily for my personal enjoyment. Since completing my graduate studies, my
primary vocation has been related to the sport of gymnastics. I was a high
school gymnast in the Chicago area and later a member of the NCAA
championship Southern Illinois Univ. men's team.
As a doctoral student at Wayne State
University in Detroit, Michigan I studied Industrial Psychology, while
interning with Ford Motor Company in Personnel Research. During this time I
continued to participate in gymnastics and started coaching. I opened the first
private gymnastics club in Michigan – the "Bloomfield Hills
Acronauts" – and was inducted to the USA Gymnastics Region V Hall of Fame
in 2010. I trained athletes of all ages/levels from preschool through
international elite. Over thirty athletes from the club received
scholarships to compete on collegiate gymnastics teams.

Following the 1987 Pan America Games, I moved
to Indianapolis to join the United States Gymnastics Federation (now USA
Gymnastics) as the Director of Coaches Education and Safety. With USA
Gymnastics I served in many capacities and now am the Director of Gymnastics
for All and Leader for the USA Gymnastics Delegation to the 2011 World
Gymnaestrada in Lausanne, Switzerland. My time with USA Gymnastics has been
very rewarding and has provided the opportunity to travel all over the world
assisting with competitions and working with outstanding athletes, coaches,
administrators and gymnastics fans.
In 2003, with the encouragement of family and
friends, I decided to formalize my passion for creating art into Artscapes
by Steve.
The consequences of this decision have been
incredible! – I'm having great fun, working with and meeting many wonderful
people, and viewing the world with a newer and sharper focus. I'm relishing in
the opportunities available by following my longtime dream.
My primary medium is pen and ink, but I also
enjoy painting and other media. The subject matter for my art changes
frequently, but most often I create a subject series. Currently, I am working
on several different series including ski scenes from Summit Colorado Ski
Resorts, a series called Gateways and Portals, another called Barns of the Midwest,
a never ending stream of figure drawings and sketches, and drawings of
interesting and historical buildings in and around Indianapolis. I also assist
with coordinating art projects for the Indiana Youth Group (IYG) as well as
assisting in the planning and organization of the Annual IYG Art Auction fund
raiser.
